This Recipe Is Good With...

This barbecue is mighty good just on its own. But if you want a treat, make a sandwich and add some cole slaw on top, or serve it up the barbecue with Carolina style hush puppies. Now that’s a meal!

  • Carolina Style Hush Puppies

Carolina style hush puppies are usually shaped as oblong fingers or small round balls. They have a crispy crust and are soft and steamy inside. Locals love them with fried seafood or Carolina-style barbecue.

  • Peggy’s Restaurant Cole Slaw

This is the recipe for the beloved cole slaw from Peggy’s Restaurant in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, served for almost 30 years on sandwiches and hot dogs, and as a side dish for lunch and dinner plates. Peggy’s Restaurant made gallons of this stuff every week.

Hi, Donna. We’re putting together Mama’s cookbook now, and hope to have it available within the next few months. Right now it’s about formatting and assembling. Well, that and rounding up more of Mama’s requested recipes (she had a sweet tooth, and mostly posted her dessert recipes). We’ll have a better idea of where we stand in regard to publication by the end of August.
